The Buds that Bloom in Hiding
May 12, 2022I water our houseplants once a week, including some orchids that are now just green leaves in their post-blooming stage.
Once their flowers are gone, I clip them back, and they join the other dormant orchids resting in our guest bedroom. I give them a little sip each week as I make my rounds with my little copper watering can.
Recently I decided it was time to take them all to the sink and give them a shower. It had been many, many months since I had done this.
To my surprise, I discovered that the smallest one had a fresh new spike with a few flowers already in bloom and some more buds forming. (see photo 👀)
For weeks, the spike hid under the leaves, and I hadn’t noticed it.
After I picked it up and moved it, I got a new perspective and saw the new growth.
I was so delighted! I’ve only had an orchid rebloom a handful of times.
Seeing this little beauty made me think about our own personal growth process.
When you are going through your days in what may feel like a dormant stage, and you don’t sense any significant changes…
🌱
If you continue to nurture yourself even just a little, consistently…
💦
You, too, might be surprised to realize that there has been some new growth. However, you may not see it until some circumstance picks you up and moves you slightly.
🌸
If you are reading this, then I know you are someone who is making an effort to take care of yourself.
Maybe it is just a little bit right now, and you’d like it to be more; please don’t judge the amount.
Acknowledge whatever you’re doing, and don’t be surprised to realize you have grown more than you realize.
It’s so easy to just be in our busy mode, going through the motions of each day, that we don’t realize what has changed within us.
If you can’t clearly see a new bud yet, don’t fret. It will show up to surprise when you least expect it.
