4 Life Lessons from Perspective Art Made from Paper Cups

I recently saw a video of artwork created by artist Alpha Mecart. He assembles paper cups, plates, bowls, and cutlery on a table and then paints on them in such a way that he ultimately creates remarkable perspective portraits.
You can only see the face he’s painted from a specific point of view, and then from any other perspective, you would have no clue that an amazing piece of artwork was in front of you that took someone 15 to 20 hours to make.
This incredibly creative artwork sparked me to consider some valuable life lessons that I wanted to share with you today:
1. So much of our life involves perspective!!! You have no idea what you could discover unless you are willing to be open to new perspectives.
2. Be curious when something seems dull or boring; or, in other words, when something isn’t lighting you up. What if you can shift your perspective a little bit and completely change your experience?
3. Simple things can be combined in new ways and result in amazing creations. If in doubt, start with something simple.
4. Be aware when you have a knee-jerk reaction when you judge something or someone, including yourself. What if there’s another way to look at the situation? What if you could imagine seeing something from someone else’s perspective? What if you’re both right, based on your own perspectives and experiences? Imagine that you were standing at the side of this creation, and you didn’t know it was art because all you see are some cups placed on a table with random paint strokes on them. You’d likely think paint had spattered on them, and they needed to be thrown away because they appeared dirty. But then there was someone else standing in front of it in the exact place where they could see the amazing portrait come together, and in fact, they couldn’t really see the individual cups like you could, because the portrait was completely capturing their attention. You two could easily have an argument about what you’re looking at unless you each moved to go look at it from the other person’s perspective. Now I know in life, it isn’t always that simple because the other person’s perspective is created from all their life experiences. So this is where compassion and curiosity and imagination come in. You have to practice being compassionate to assume they have good reason to believe what they believe and then get curious about it, and even use your imagination to help you imagine a life different from yours that would result in the perspective they have.
Living a balanced life involves practicing all of the above, because, ultimately a balanced life comes when you feel more peace of mind, experience less conflict, feel more open, experience less stress, and when have the ability to find and see the magic in the seemingly mundane.
I can help you with very actionable steps you can take to consider a new view and shift your life so that you enjoy it more.
